How to sleep better: habits to actually rest

June 3, 2026 · 5 min read

You can train and eat perfectly, but if you sleep badly, everything costs double. Sleep is the foundation the rest of your habits are built on: with little rest, willpower collapses and cravings spike. The good news: better sleep can be trained.

1. Fixed time, every day

Your body loves routine. Going to bed and waking up at the same time —even on weekends— syncs your internal clock and makes you feel sleepy and wake up naturally. Consistency matters more than quantity.

2. Turn off screens before bed

Your phone's blue light tells your brain it's daytime and slows melatonin (the sleep hormone). Try to put screens down 30-60 minutes before. If you scroll in bed, you're stealing hours from your rest without noticing.

3. Dark, cool and quiet room

  • As dark as possible: even a tiny light is annoying.
  • Cool: you sleep better a bit cold than hot.
  • Quiet, or with steady white noise.

4. Watch what you take in the afternoon

Caffeine lasts hours in your body: that 5pm coffee could be sabotaging your 11pm sleep. Avoid caffeine in the afternoon and very heavy meals right before bed. Alcohol puts you to sleep fast but ruins the quality of your rest.

The first step to sleeping better? Having a bedtime and respecting it. A coach that tells you “time to wind down” every night turns that intention into a routine. Cero Excusas looks after your rest too, not just your gym.
