How to wake up early without suffering (even if you hate mornings)
Waking up early feels impossible when you rely on motivation. At 5am there is no motivation: there's a warm bed and a brain negotiating “five more minutes”. The good news is that a good morning is designed the night before, not at the moment the alarm goes off.
1. The morning is won at night
You can't wake up early if you go to bed late. Sounds obvious, but it's 80% of the problem. Set a fixed bedtime and protect it: if you want to get up at 6, by 10pm you should already be winding down. Getting enough sleep is what makes opening your eyes not a torture.
2. Move the alarm away from the bed
If the phone is within reach, the snooze button wins. Put the alarm across the room: it forces you to stand up to turn it off, and once you're up, the hard part is over. The goal isn't to “feel like it”, it's to get your feet on the floor.
3. Light, water and movement
- Open the curtain or turn on a bright light: light tells your body the night is over.
- Drink a glass of water the moment you get up.
- Move for 2 minutes (stretch, squats). A body in motion wakes up the mind.
4. Don't negotiate with yourself
The decision to get up isn't made at 5am half asleep: you already made it last night. When the alarm rings, there's no debate. The fewer times you negotiate, the easier it gets. In 2-3 weeks it stops being a fight.
The trick that works best? Having someone get you out of bed. A coach that texts you —and calls you if you don't reply— does what the snooze button never will: it won't let you fall back asleep. That's Cero Excusas: your alarm clock with attitude.
Your coach reminds you on WhatsApp and, if you ignore it, calls you.
