How to get your focus back in the age of distraction
Do you feel like you can't focus even five minutes without checking your phone? You're not broken and you're not “just someone who can't concentrate”. There are billions of dollars invested in designing apps that steal your attention. The good news: focus can be retrained.
1. Work in blocks with a single goal
Multitasking is a myth: what you actually do is jump between things and lose time on every jump. Pick ONE task, set a timer (25-50 minutes) and only that until it rings. One goal at a time is how the brain truly performs.
2. Add friction to your phone
- Put it in another room, not face down on the desk.
- Turn off non-urgent notifications (almost none are urgent).
- Take the apps that eat you alive off your home screen.
It's not willpower: every extra second it takes to grab your phone is a second your focus wins.
3. Beware of cheap dopamine
When you feed your brain ultra-fast stimulation all day (reels, scrolling), normal tasks feel unbearably boring. Cut the scrolling and, little by little, you regain your tolerance for effort. Boredom isn't the enemy; it's where concentration is born.
4. Rest for real (not on your phone)
A scrolling break doesn't rest your attention, it keeps spending it. Between blocks, get up, walk, look out the window. Focus recharges with real pauses, not more screen.
Reclaiming focus is also a habit, and like every habit it needs reminders and consistency. Cero Excusas helps you protect your work blocks and your breaks: it tells you when to focus and when to stop, so you train your attention every day.
Your coach reminds you on WhatsApp and, if you ignore it, calls you.
