How to drink more water every day (without obsessing)
It's the easiest habit of all and almost nobody keeps it. You live slightly dehydrated without noticing: less energy, headaches, hunger that was actually thirst, focus on the floor. The good news is that drinking more water doesn't take discipline, it takes design.
1. Keep water in sight
If you have to go get it, you won't drink it. Leave a bottle or a big glass where you spend your day: the desk, the nightstand, the car. What you see, you drink. It's the dumbest trick and the most effective.
2. Anchor it to things you already do
- A glass the moment you wake up (before coffee).
- A glass before each meal (also helps you eat less).
- A glass every time you get back to your desk.
Don't count liters or obsess: chain it to fixed moments and the total takes care of itself.
3. If it bores you, add flavor
Lemon slices, cucumber, mint or a bit of fruit. If plain water bores you, make it tasty without sugar. What matters is that you go back to it without thinking.
4. Watch out for confusing thirst and hunger
Often that mid-afternoon craving is thirst in disguise. Before you snack, drink a glass of water and wait ten minutes. Half the time the “hunger” disappears.
